SCHOOL NEWS: House Numbers, Parent Volunteers, 8th Grade Gathering, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Daddy Daughter Dance and Notre Dame Play

1.      House Numbers - Cognitio--874   Caritas--775   Ministro--776
2.      Parent Volunteers - Teachers will be receiving the list of parents from each grade who are Virtus trained and background checked for chaperoning upcoming field trips and parties. If you have not completed the necessary training and paperwork, you will not be able to volunteer in the presence of our students. If you have done the training, but we do not have all the necessary paperwork in our files to show it, you may be asked to send in a copy of your Virtus certificate or fill out additional paperwork. Please be patient with us as we work to ensure the safety of all our students. If you still need to sign up for Virtus, the next currently scheduled classes in our area are St. Augustine Church (Signal Mountain) on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 6:00 PM and St. Bridget Church (Dayton)  on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 9:00 AM. Sign up by going to https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_0.cfm?theme=0 and searching Knoxville (Diocese). You may volunteer for 30 days if you have completed the paperwork and are signed up for an upcoming Virtus class. If you are in need of a class at a different time or day, please contact Cissy West.
3.      8th Grade Gathering- The 8th Grade will be having a gathering in Mrs. Monahan’s classroom at 7:30 on Tuesday, November 15th. If you wish, you may bring your own breakfast, but it is not required. If you wish to bring in a breakfast item for the whole 8th grade, you are more than welcome to (keep in mind no items brought may contain any type of tree nuts/peanut butter). This will be a new privilege for the 8th grade this year. Every 8th grade gathering will be on the 2nd Tuesday of every month if schedule allows. You will be notified if there are any future changes.
4.      Thanksgiving Food Drive - In the past, Catholic Charities has organized a Thanksgiving Basket distribution for those in need in our community, and we have supported their efforts by collecting the canned and dry goods to add to their purchase of turkeys. This year Catholic Charities is not organizing those baskets. In the absence of that program, we will be collecting food items and cash for the purchase of additional fresh items, but for a smaller number of families - those that we know could use the help from OLPH and St. Stephens parishes. I will be placing collection containers in the main hall for nonperishable items. To be sure we get the necessary items for all families; I have listed the traditional items on the Sign Up site (see the link below). We will collect over the next two weeks. We will also be collecting cash to purchase fresh items, such as fresh produce, bread, etc. If you wish to bring in a frozen turkey or pie, please bring them to Mary Curtiss in the cafeteria, and she will put them in the freezer. The last day to bring in items will be Monday, November 21. If you know of a family who may be struggling and in need of a Thanksgiving basket, please contact Pam Franklin in our church office ASAP.
5.      Daddy Daughter Dance - OLPH School presents the 1st annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, December 17th in the OLPH gym from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.  Light refreshments, finger foods, dancing and a DJ included! Girls from Pre-K through 8th grade are cordially invited to a magical evening. Girls may be escorted by Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, etc. Photo Keepsake included! It’s going to be a really special evening. We hope you can join us! Tickets are $25 per couple with a maximum of $35 per family. Invitations will be going home soon with a sign up deadline of December 1st. Any questions, please contact Kelly Petrin.
6.      Notre Dame Production - Notre Dame High School Presents Curtain Going Up by Gregory Johnston: November 17 and 19 7:00 pm; Sunday November 20, 2:00 P.M. Notre Dame High School Auditorium $10 General Admission. Knoxville Diocese faculty, staff, and students $5 general admission (With school ID), prospect pass admission is free. Synopsis: Among the comic obstacles facing Miss Burgess in producing her first play at the high school are a grouchy janitor, disappearing scripts, crossed up romances, a stage struck heroine and her bewildered boyfriend, an actor with a swollen head, a disgruntled athlete who feels out of place on stage, a flamboyant professional actress with advice, a banker's daughter driven to theft and, perhaps most unexpected of all, a romance for Miss Burgess herself! The solution to the mounting complications sets forth a worthwhile theme that will further satisfy any audience.
