3.      Talent Show - We are going to have a talent show this year during catholic Schools Week. Please e-mail, acarson@myolph.com, so that she will know who wants to participate. All music and acts will be cleared by Mrs. Carson between Tuesday, January 17, and Thursday, January 19.  We can use class time to preview the performance. Any props/ music need to be sent to school with the children for their preview.  Each act can be up to a maximum of 2 minutes, to allow more children to participate. The show will be on Tuesday, January 31, at 2:15. Please save the date. Parents are invited to attend.
4.      Bricks for Kidz - Too fun to be homework! Your child’s learning doesn’t need to stop when the bell rings. At Bricks 4 Kidz®, we believe it’s important to tap into a child’s potential by encouraging their curiosity and creativity in and out of the classroom. Our fun-filled model plans designed by engineers and architects, teach children to learn with LEGO® Bricks.  Each Bricks 4 Kidz STEM Enrichment class includes a short lesson around a S.T.E.M topic with a motorized model build using LEGO® bricks and some creative building time.  Amazing Animals - Jan 24th - February 28th: It’s a zoo in here! This is a unit sure to delight kids who love creatures. We’ll be building models of snakes, insects, mammals and more. Each week we’ll discuss fascinating facts about the animals we build, from the chameleon that changes colors to the seal model that waddles across the table. Students will love these moving models that celebrate the wonders of the animal kingdom. Grades: 1st - 5th.  It will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M .Students may be registered using the link  https://my.bricks4kidz.com/index.php?action=classdetail&record=163460 
5.      After School Art - I am excited to announce that there will be 3 new after school art opportunities for this quarter available to K-5th grade students. There will be a K-2nd grade class that will meet every other Tuesday, a 3rd-5th class that will meet every other Tuesday (alternating with K-2) and a community class on Thursdays for K-5. There is still space available in these classes, but class size will be limited. If interested in signing up, please email Mrs. Mullins at rmullins@myolph.com.
6.      Annual Fund - OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CATHOLIC SCHOOL WINTER NEWSLETTER and Annual Fund report has gone out. If you did not receive one, but would like to see the latest on the happenings in our school, you can go to our website atschool.myolph.com/about/newsletters.cfm. Checks to the OLPH Annual Fund may be mailed to OLPH School, 505 South Moore Road, or you may donate securely using your credit card through the school website at http://school.myolph.com/support/annualfund.cfm Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
7.      iPad Lab - Thank you to all of the donors who helped OLPH School meet the maximum match for the Osborne Foundation Grant. Your generous donations of $11,000 will be added to the matching grant money to enable us to purchase an additional iPad Lab for our classes to share.  It will also pay for additional professional development to help our teachers learn even more ways to use this great tool!
8.      Catholic Schools Week - Did you know that Catholic Schools educate nearly 2 million students each year in 6,252 schools across the country? Our Catholic Schools Week, 2017 celebration begins on Sunday, January 29 with a Kickoff at the 10:00 Mass, students are encouraged to wear their school uniform to their home parish.  A list of the events, are as follows: Monday, January 30th--"In Our Community"--Out of uniform if you wore your uniform to Mass on Sunday--8:15, Pep Rally in the gym. Tuesday, January 31st--"Celebrating Students"--OLPH spirit wear and jeans--2:15, Talent Show.  Wednesday, February 1st--"Celebrating the Nation"--Wear red, white and blue w/jeans--Donuts sold during morning drop off--Special snack provided by Home and School--Students will make cards of support for our local politicians--1:30 gather around the flag pole to pray for our nation. Thursday, February 2nd--"Celebrating Vocations"--Wear black and white w/jeans--Priests share their stories with students--2:45, Gather in the gym to assemble Woodmore snack bags--Students make Valentine's for BVMs.  Friday, February 3rd--"Celebrating Faculty, Staff and Volunteers"--Wear dress uniform--Eucharistic Adoration after Mass--9:30, Volunteer Brunch--Students deliver snacks to Woodmore--2:00, Faculty vs. Students, games in the gym.
9.      Faculty Room - OLPH Faculty & Staff are hoping to update a room to be used as a lounge for teachers. We are looking for furniture to help fill the room. If you have a GENTLY-used sofa, loveseat, chair, side tables or a floor lamp that you would like to donate, please contact the school office. Thank you!

11.    Winter Jam - Please join us for the second annual WINTER JAM2 Party on January 28th from 8-11. It will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall.   Adult only and invite ALL YOUR OLPH friends! It's going to be fun.  Lots of fun stuff to auction off as well as some awesome raffle items. Tickets are $25 a person or $40 a couple. All proceeds help fund the 8th graders trip to Washington, D.C.

·        Free Throw Contest - Congratulations to all 11 kids who participated in Knights of Columbus Council 6099's Free Throw Contest. The winners were: Cooper Campbell (9B), Gabe Flowers (10B), Rily Roberts (11B), Regan Wolf (12G), Kenzie Campbell (13G), Tucker Berry (14B) and Georgia Wolf (14G).  These winners move on to the East Regional Free Throw Contest in Knoxville, TN.  Other participants were: Jack Christensen (10B), Aiden Corbitt (10B), Carlo Salenda (11B) and Maccoy Earnest (12B)
