SCHOOL NEWS: Virtus
Training, Work Day Nature's Place and Red Mass
1.
Virtus
Training--The Diocese of Knoxville will be auditing our records to be sure
all volunteers are properly trained and background checked. If you still need
to complete your training, you may sign up for the one-time, three hour class
by going to www.virtus.org and
searching on “Knoxville (Diocese).” You may attend any class listed that is
convenient to you. The
next Virtus Class scheduled on our campus will be: Monday, August 7 at 6PM in the PLC. If
you attend a class at another location, please check with Cissy West to be sure
you have completed all the necessary paperwork. If you attend class here, Donna
Jones will provide you with all the paperwork we will need.
2.
Nature's
Place--The next organized chance to volunteer will be a workday in Nature’s Place (Outdoor classroom
beside the gym) on: Saturday, August 5 beginning at 9:00 A.M. Sign up to come at http://signup.com/go/hxXHgnq.
3. Red Mass - One of many traditions we have at OLPH is the
celebration of The Red Mass as we begin each academic school year. The! Red Mass is a
historical tradition within the Catholic Church dating back to the thirteenth
century. Our purpose for the celebration of this mass is praying for the
gifts of the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts, hallways, and classrooms
throughout the school year. Each student from Pre-K to 8th grade is
asked to wear an appropriate red top with
their Friday uniform bottoms
and shoes. The faculty and staff will participate; you may also join us
in mass with a red top. The color red is used to signify action, fire, charity, spiritual awakening in the
Christian symbolism; it denotes the Holy Spirit.
