3.      Beginner Lego Our favorite Beginner Lego program is starting in January. Kids in K-2 grade are welcome.  This program is designed to teach the kids how to build using the books and from their own imagination. We will have a 2 to 1 ratio of learners to helper. This is an annual program that I normally do in the fall but because of Lego League I had to delay it for the winter. We will meet for 4 weeks.
·        Week 1 is introduction to parts and names. The kids will build a simple airplane as they learn the parts and their names.
·        Week 2 the kids will build an 80 to 100 piece model.
·        Week 3 the kids will build a 180 to 250 piece model. Week 3 home work the kids will rebuild the model into a second model.
·        Week 4 is a free build where the kids will build designs of their own using the clubs 60,000 Lego pieces.
The kids will get to keep the models from weeks 2 and 3 and take them home on week 3. We will have one older student helper for each 2 younger students. We will meet on Tuesdays this year. The dates are Jan 12, Jan 19, Jan 26 and Feb 2. The fee for this program is $65. We are limited to the first 10 kids in grades k-2. To Sign up please visit http://olphmakersclub.blogspot.com/2015/12/been-while-new-projects.html.
4.      School Facilities If you are interested in reserving any of the school facilities outside of the school day, we now have a calendar in the school office that needs to be filled out.  This includes the Cafeteria, Library, Multi-Purpose Room and the Gym.  All groups and sports with on-going uses need to come by the office to be sure your space is reserved.
5.      Health and Hygiene: We want to take a moment and address some common concerns for students and parents alike. The transmission of germs is a concern at all times but especially during cold/flu season and when students are in close proximity at school. Please remind your students of the importance of hand washing/sanitizing throughout the day. Another way some illnesses can be transmitted is through saliva. Mono is a common viral infection that is transmitted in this way. It typically shows up with cold or flu-like symptoms and is contagious via contact while the child has a fever but through saliva after the fever is gone. Students should not share drinks or utensils at snack or in the cafeteria.  Finally, be mindful of when students report having a fever. Although we want everyone to be at school as much as possible, students with fevers should stay home rather than risk passing illness to classmates. Thank you for your support in fighting illness here at OLPH.

SPORTS NEWS
·        The OLPH Rams basketball teams are gearing up for the 2015-2016 season. We will be hosting many schools in our gym for games involving the 5th grade boys and girls teams, the JV boys and girls teams and the Varsity boys and girls teams. We are asking our OLPH families for help with a few jobs that we need during these games. If you are able to help out by working in the concession stand or taking money at the door for entrance fees, you will be able to earn PIP hours for your work. You do not have to be a basketball parent to help out. We need for only parents of OLPH students to sign up (not older brothers or sisters).
Please use the link below to take you straight to the sign up sheet.
·        Booster Club membership cards are being sent home starting today.  Please present your card at home games to get free admission.  The Booster Club will be posting a list of current members via email and a copy will be on hand at the gate.  If you are interested in signing up, forms will be available at the gate.
·        Beginning next week the Boosters hope to be able to take credit/debit cards both at the gate and for concessions.  In this way, OLPH hopes to make attending home games easier for parents on the go.
